When I save a file on Public, everyone else can see it, can I stop this?
No, the Macs have been set up with file sharing in mind, as soon as you save a file to the Public directory every other Mac in the room will have it displayed in their Public folder also, and students can open and read it. Therefore it is strongly suggested that you save all files on a zip disk and do not expect your files to remain on the computer without being tampered with. Always save your file continually and save it to a back up disk.

The Mac scans my disk when I put it in, Why?
The Mac's have virus scanning software which will scan your disk for Viruses and Trojan Horses before they can infect the hard drive. If a Virus or Trojan Horse is found it will notify you and ask if you wish to repair/delete the infected file.

Trash

Files that go to Trash can be removed if accidentally deleted.

How do I rename a file?
Move the mouse over the text and click once. A cursor will appear in text box to allow changes. Hit return or click outside the box to exit.

Your file can only be saved to Public, the Shared Folder in the users directory on the local hard disk ö there is an icon for it on the dock, or to you're your own disk. The file can not be saved anywhere else on the hard drive.

How do I move a file?
Move the mouse over the file icon and hit the Control Key, from the pop up menu select 'Copy to...', But remember you will only be able to copy from your disk to Public/Share Folder or from these folders to your disk. Or drag and drop file icon where you require it.
